Tagliamento tour
Now that you have found the right accommodation for you, you are ready to explore Bibione’s paths and biking trails. We get on our bike and we leave for the Tagliamento tour, a bicycle route that from the lighthouse of Bibione leads to San Michele al Tagliamento, continuing then to the village of Alvisopoli, for a total length of 34 kilometers.
We dive here in an uncontaminated nature that testifies the encounter between the Mediterranean and continental climate. Steep paths pass through green meadows up to the banks of the Tagliamento River. Along with the rich vegetation, mainly made of ferns, alders and white willows, you can also observe the waterfowl along the way, such as the moorhen and the mallard.
The Tagliamento tour is a route suitable for experienced cyclists with mountain bikes. You can go all year round but in the summer, it is not recommended to leave during the hottest hours, a recommendation that applies to all summer sports activities.
Biking trail Lignano-Bibione: the bicycle-ferry of the Adriatic
Only the Tagliamento River separates Bibione and Lignano and a cycle path connects these two places so close together. But if in the past it was necessary to go into the countryside to reach Lignano from Bibione by bike, abandoning the paths along the sea, now it is no longer so: from May 2018 the Adriatic bicycle-ferry is active, a free connection that allows you to go from a bank to the other of the Tagliamento, across the sea. Thanks to X-River, the biking trails of the two locations are now united.
A pier-dock was built near the lighthouse of Bibione, while in Lignano Riviera the dock of the Darsena Marina Uno was reused. The ferry can carry up to 10 people with their own bikes, or even without (the connection is not for the exclusive use of cyclists). The 9 kilometers of the Passeggiata Adriatico cycle path can now be joined with the 8 kilometers of the Lignano trail.
Adriatic shoreline trip
The X-River ferry connects Bibione and Lignano starting from the Adriatic shoreline trip, the beautiful biking/walking trail accessible to all, which runs along the seafront. The track has two lanes, one for pedestrians and one for bikes, except in some short sections. In order to follow it, you can start from Bibione Pineda and reach the lighthouse of Bibione, or vice versa, or you can access other points of the 9 kilometers of route.
The slopes are light and the curves are gentle, so it is a path suitable for the whole family. What is most striking about the Adriatic shoreline trip is the surrounding landscape: nature, sea, dunes, pine forests and then the historic lighthouse. It is a real dip into the beauty of Bibione and the Tagliamento river territory. The best moments for this bike tour are sunrise and sunset, when the sun colors the landscape of a thousand shades.
Biking trails for those who love adventure
We conclude our bike tour with unpaved biking trails that are more suitable for trained cyclists. These are long itineraries that can make you spend entire days in the name of cycling tourism. One of these is the route of Terzo Bacino and the Casoni, of a total duration of 3 hours (2 to the outward and 1 to the return), around 38 kilometers long. Starting from the lagoon, you cross the countryside and the rice fields along a bluish canal of the Tagliamento; along the way we meet the typical Casoni, that is the traditional dwellings of the fishermen of the lagoon.
Another fascinating route is the one that crosses the localities of Brussa and Vallevecchia, 70 kilometers long in total (35 + 35 if you do the whole bike ride). Given its length, it is more suitable for sportsmen, but it does not present great difficulties; alternating bicycles and cars, you can take the country course even with the family. The starting point is the Brussa beach and then continue towards the Castello di Brussa. After leaving the paved road, continue towards Vallevecchia.
We end with the Giralagune (29 + 29 km) that meets the Brussa and the Terzo Bacino, and the round route of Cesarolo, 15 kilometers long, which crosses the countryside location known for its white asparagus.
